Graduation Day began with a walk around town, a visit to Black Magic coffee shop where April tragically found out what a real macchiatto is, and a stop by the University for Matt to register.
We saw the Royal Oak pub and learned that Victorian-era serial killers used to hide bodies in the passageways below the building, then sell them to the University for medical tests. Sad.
We stopped in St. Giles Cathedral. John Knox preached here, and the ancient Order of the Thistle meets here as well.
When it was time for the ceremony, we went to McEwan Hall, which was partially hidden behind some unfortunate scaffolding.
Matt received his degree in Africa and International Development.
Here, his name is called and he is ceremonially bopped on the side of the head with a bonnet. Made from our Grandpa* John Knox's knickers, so they say.
Look for Matt:
Matt tells us this is the oldest Student Union building in the world. It's also home to like 30 bars and the alcohol flows freely:
Out to dinner! Some very elegant haggis and good ol' fish and chips.
* Did you know that the Wilson clan is descended from Robert the Bruce and John Knox, two of the most famous Scotsman in history? It's true, but for some reason we were given no preferential treatment...
